The spooky thing about chronic pain
Happy Halloween!
If there is one thing we know about the complexities of chronic pain, it's that there is a lot we DON'T know. There is no such thing as a "pain receptor" in the body, and all the pain that we experience comes from the brain reacting to a perceived threat. In fact, it seems our healthcare system is actually getting worse at treating chronic pain, while the number of people suffering from chronic pain increases!
Here is a hopeful fact: there is strong evidence that stabilization exercises and manual physical therapy can be a highly effective treatment for low back pain.
If you struggle with chronic pain, you may have noticed that stress increases your symptoms. What you may not have noticed, is how DIET can affect your pain! What you eat can affect inflammation in your body.
Here is a recipe for Turmeric tea to help calm your nervous system and reduce inflammation:
Turmeric Tea
1 tsp turmeric
2 tsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
small piece of fresh ginger
Helpful hint: Try eliminating sugar and gluten from your diet! These can be contributors to chronic pain even in small amounts.
